Proposition
Local Jail Facilities: ($1,220,000,000 Lease Revenue)
Purpose: Expanding capacity of local jails by constructing, expanding or renovating for the purpose of adding beds to local jails to protect the citizens of California from the risk to public safety posed by offenders who either remain in the community or are released early due to lack of jail capacity.
Status: The Corrections Standards Authority, an entity within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, is administering the funding through a Request for Proposals process, wherein counties throughout the state have the opportunity to compete for jail construction funding based on the merits of their proposal. Conditional awards for funding are scheduled for May 2008 when counties will be notified as to which projects ranked highest in the proposal evaluation process.
